I listen to more music than anyone I have ever known and I can't understand why this album gets good reviews and not top class ratings. I have been listening to the album for a year now and it gets better with age. The last time I felt that the critics were too hard on an artist it was Jeff Buckley and look what the masses are saying now about him. If this band can improve, watch I listen to more music than anyone I have ever known and I can't understand why this album gets good reviews and not top class ratings. Yep, go buy it... In some ways The Stills are the band that The Doves always threatened to be but could never really deliver on. I hear a lot of early U2 in here too. Big Joyful Mopey Happy Sound that will have everyone dancing at a party.

A beautiful record. It's the album that I hoped Interpol would make, but I guess The Stills beat them to it.

This was one of my favorite albums of 2003. I listened to it over and over and over. You really do have to listen to it through a few times to really appreciate it. 80's post-punk has been a big influence on many fine bands recently (Interpol, British Sea Power, etc.). Add the Stills to that list. Like their successful contemporaries, they merge their influences into a bracing and powerful whole. They are a little bit more pop (I hear echoes of Duran Duran in "Still In Love Song"), but without any hint of pandering. Highly recommended.

Disillusioned, brooding beautiful music. The lead singer has a versatile voice - reminds you of Ecco & Bunnymen, Radiohead, Oasis, The Strokes, The Cure.. They really do show so many sides on this debut record. After listening to this album at least a dozen times, I still can't get enough. I'd love to see them in concert in a small venue.

If they cut-out a couple of songs, it would be a perfect album. Super catchy pop.

Absolutely top notch from beginning to end and probably the best album I've heard in 10 years. It really is that good.

After the inital couple of listenings, "Logic..." began to stay parked in the changer. Definitely not great, but listenable. I'd love to see a lyric sheet.

  1. The Stills' excellent debut album, Logic Will Break Your Heart, is a stunner, a rush of shoegazer guitars and suave lover-boy angst.

The Stills succeed at distilling their influences into an inviting update. [24 Oct 2003, p.105]

There's plenty of regret and "emotional disgust," but it's applied with piercing guitar lines that resemble a soppier Interpol. [Mar 2004, p.112]
