"London Ko" is a strong album to continue the career of a powerful singer with a lot of soul and joy in her cosmovision. And, of course, with Damon Alban on her side, this is quite a joyride through a tropical side of what Fatoumata Diawara can do with her instruments and her voice. It’s a sprawling, chequered affair, with six of its 14 tracks co-written with Albarn (she on guitar, he on synths), while the rest co-opt a stellar cast of collaborators. There’s much to admire.
