The GOASTT wig out like shamen throughout Midnight Sun.

It is not pretentious and it is not pompous--here is an ingenuous album made by a couple of odd cherubs who just happen to be, inescapably, two of the Beautiful People.

It's their immersion in multi-layered psychedelia that give Midnight Sun its compellingly ominous underpinning and complete two-sides-of-vinyl feel. [Jun 2014, p.91]

Midnight Sun is a true jewel, and worthy of the linage of one member’s predecessor.

This time there are killer hooks aplenty that immediately hit the spot. Midnight scorchio, more like.

By being unafraid to turn up the grit of the guitars and building the wall of sound above the foundations of their debut even higher, it manages to set a more recent benchmark for newer acts to reach, but is still similar to acts who have toyed with the genre before it’s more mainstream return.

It’s an accomplished, enjoyable record from start to finish, regardless of references or lineage.

Even though Midnight Sun feels like a creative milestone for the band, it's clear that it's just another step in Lennon and Muhl's creative evolution, and while fans might miss it when it's gone, it's exciting to think about what these two might be seeing on the horizon.

Overall, the set could use some emotional weight to match the level of wit and craft.

Midnight Sun is a very interesting record, and shows the duo expanding their horizons without forgetting about the importance of their melodic roots.

Their supporting tour with dynamite backing back around the US started slow but, opening for Beck in the eastern tour, they''ll start to get the attention they deserve. From top to bottom, inside out, Midnight Sun is the perfect antidote and complement to Beck's Morning Phase. Full Review »

But is it a good album ? Yes, but don't expect much originality. Just good songs. And don't forget THE GOASTT is a duo. Lennon works with his talented girlfriend Charlotte Kemp Muhl. They are ready for the next Monterey Pop Festival!
