With 2022's Misadventures of Doomscroller, Dawes have crafted one their shortest and tightest albums to date that also happens to be one of their most enjoyably experimental.

As a whole, is Dawes, on the album where all the members finally get to let their freak-flag fly a little more, or as much on record as they have live. And an album that’s kinda about dystopianism kinda becomes a nice 46-minute tonic for it.

Dawes certainly achieved their goal of honoring the vinyl format in this ambitious recording, which is more organic and musically aware than its more recent predecessor albums.

Dawes have never sounded more musically sophisticated. [Sep 2022, p.23]

These tunes are an absolute joy to listen to. Misadventures Of Doomscroller probably isn’t the AOTY 2022, but if your criteria is “best album to listen to while cruising the Pacific Coast Highway, wind in your hair”, well, it’s a shoo-in.
  6. 70
Competence and creativity are never in question, even though every one of these numbers requires the listener to allow added indulgence.

If only the lyrics were as articulate as the melodies and playing. [Jul - Aug 22, p.120]

I have followed Dawes for a long time. I saw a them in concert some time ago and they gave me an Eagles feel to their music. I have to sayI have followed Dawes for a long time. I saw a them in concert some time ago and they gave me an Eagles feel to their music. I have to say they have upped their game on this album. Always tight musically, this has a mellow jazz rock feel which is right in my wheelhouse. Lead guitar reminds me of a Walter Becker jam. I could probably do without the synthesizer on the first cut but each track is memorable with foot tapping music, tight vocals and long ballads. Guaranteed you will want to listen more than once.
