Apr 17, 2020‘Miss Colombia’ is an impressive, experimental collection, filled with complex, crunching production and romantic lyrics that recount love and loss. Mixing the old and traditional with modern elements, it’s a powerful statement of Lido Pimienta’s innovative creative vision and Colombia as a whole.

May 13, 2020To be honest, I had not heard an album this good, natural and mystical in many years. "Miss Colombia" by Lido Pimienta is a fantastic journeyTo be honest, I had not heard an album this good, natural and mystical in many years. "Miss Colombia" by Lido Pimienta is a fantastic journey to native pre-hispanic South American culture. Taking advantage and embracing her country's folklore and tradition, she has put an album that sounds like a fairy in a forest that sings to nature with the rest of the flowers and trees being its choir. Traditions are constantly being forgotten as globalization is becoming a thing. Other Colombian artists like Shakira or J Balvin have followed the rules of the American music industry, visiting and talking about their home country only once in a lifetime. They have mostly abandoned their roots to focus and selling more singles and records but have come back again when Latin American music started its revival somewhere in 2016. However, Lido Pimienta has been able to take us back to those times where nature was a human's best and most loyal friend. Her voice, mixed with this organic, afro-american and, even sometimes, non-existent production, sounds perfectly gorgeous, inspirational, fragile and harmonical.
The songs and lyrics may not be the best specially to non-Spanish speakers but, if you are open to explore new territories and discover something fresh and new, "Miss Colombia" the one to start with since, I insist, the album is vivid, colorful and gorgeous and a maybe upgrated version of Mon Laferte's earlier work. Still being in quarantine I miss the streets very much and am very worried about the summer of 2020; and this may have been the cure to my worries and nostalgia since I have been able to hear through this album a perfect summer vacation in the hills with singing birds and waterfalls surrounding you and your friends while the sun penetrates through the leafs of those tall trees and your heart slowly heals from the breakup you had been through.
Thus, if you are bored, emotional or thirsty to listen to something new, "Miss Colombia" is the album you are definitely looking for. I am very very grateful for discovering this record, one of the best indie ones of 2020 if not the best so far.… Expand

From Colombia and Canada, Lido Pimienta, clinging to protect and exploit her folkloric roots, shines the power of her voice with an evident beauty. The production is the contrast of the album. Idealized by Lido herself, with help of Prince Nifty, the music is more successful when the space is simple, rustic, and acoustic, without surprises, exuberances, or extravagances, which reduces complexity but takes care and respects a worthful culture to hear. The lyrics seduce because they scratch the tradition and legend of romance with authenticity. Although it's not an album for people's daily lives, any person who knows how to appreciate music will find a lot of cultural value in "Miss Colombia". Lido is preparing herself for huge things, and the carefulness she gives to her career stipulates her as a worldwide and culturally relevant artist.… Expand
