The most impressive is its cohesiveness ansibility. This is a record that never leaves you in doubt about who's driving.

For now, let’s revel in the fact there’s a record that swings from sumptuous sprawls to ear-sizzling riffs.

It’s as good a debut as you could hope to hear, a fresh injection of pure brilliance and beauty to a genre that is creaking under the weight of mediocrity and a lack of adventurous inventiveness.

My Love Is Cool is volatile, but it’s also invigorating, charming, and hugely exciting for what it promises.

The unconventional twists and turns of My Love Is Cool makes Wolf Alice one of the most exciting new bands around.

The cocksure quality of My Love Is Cool represents some majority of its charm.

My Love Is Cool is no pioneering sonic masterpiece, no, but it’s definitely possessed with that ol’ black magic snap, the “electric kick” that might just inspire other manic street creatures to ignite a guitar and exorcise their own demons. This incendiary infection, pass it on.

Wolf Alice balances the difficult combination of seeming guilelessness and utter confidence.

It’s an invigorating debut with a gaunt, gallant identity of its own.

They don’t quite sound like the finished article, but there is a virtuous sense of their trying to make music in service of something profound.

Wolf Alice is fiendishly difficult to pin down, bu they're full of inspired ideas rather than lacking direction. [Jun 2015, p.115]

There's a Jekyll and Hyde quality to Wolf Alice's debut that gently reels you in with its gossamer folk pop and lilting indie-pop before it going for the jugular with savage bursts of psycho-grunge guitars. [Jul 2015, p.84]

It's a good album, full of high points, but it never excites in the way it threatens to.

The confident diversity of My Love Is Cool indicates a band who have their own thing all figured out, who shouldn't veer from their own strange path to live up to outdated narratives that dictate what a young British band should be.

She balances the scary intensity of someone who thinks "going out and smashing windows" is a cool way to kill time with a no-big-whoop casualness about the musical styles she tries out.

Even if My Love Is Cool sacrifices some of Wolf Alice's earlier fury, the album is all the stronger for it.

The 12-song tracklist is full of individual gems, but would have better highlighted their songwriting strengths if trimmed.

I so rarely hand out 10s nowadays, but this album deserves it. Should I even make the effort to list every bright spot? "Bros" "Moaning Lisa Smile" "Freazy" "Giant Peach" "Fluffy". Simply incredible. Many bands go trough an entire career without 5 songs as good as these, let alone all 5 being in the same album. I like what I hear from Wolf Alice. Only one question remains: is this their peak? So many tracks on here are an absolute blast to listen to, from the phenomenal heavier headbangers (Giant Peach, Fluffy, Moaning Lisa Smile) to the absolutely perfect duo Lisbon and Silk or gorgeous post-rock/grunge blend Swallowtail. The only below-average song would be Freazy, which is kind of forgettable, but the rest of the record is going to blow you away. Full Review »
