-
A rather more satisfying record than their second.
-
The album glistens with supple melodies, chameleon-like stances towards the history of rock and orderly, accomplished instrumental prowess.
-
It's this mixing of old and new dynamics that makes Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker such a compelling listen.
-
Nightfreak is imbued with an appealing, frantic punk energy, but hamstrung by third-rate Zappa lyrics.
-
MojoA varied, febrile affair more often than not in pursuit of the lunatic. [Feb 2004, p.93]
-
On closer inspection, much of Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker appears less like an exercise in deliberately alienating the Coral's audience than a counterpoint to their second album.
-
A flatulent, irrelevant, self-indulgent attempt at recapturing the hotwired spontaneity of their debut through a dirge of sub-par psychedelia and try-hard freakouts.

MaciejWApr 6, 2005Nothing essential, but a nice carry over from the second album and a good filler til we get the real deal with their third album proper.
