Confirms her 2019 Rising Star Brit and BBC's Sound Of 2020 awards were no fluke. [Apr 2021, p.83]

Chaotic roll-out notwithstanding, the album is sure-footed and attests to the artist's high standing among the crowd mining pre-disco R&B, jazz, and pop. Celeste and her fellow songwriters and producers -- led by main collaborators Jamie Hartman and Josh Crocker -- have all the knowing, tasteful moves down pat and exhibit some tricks of their own.

Her raspy tones give way to huge notes, effortless in their delivery. No moment feels forced or out of place.
  4. There may be elements of these greats in her vocals, but as ‘Not Your Muse’ proves, Celeste is on her way to becoming a star in her own right.

This is a classy debut, from a sophisticated talent who takes things at her own sweet pace. She may not turn out to be the next big thing, but Celeste sounds like she is in it for the long haul.

Radiating self confidence and assuredness, Celeste bolsters her existing catalogue of soft, somber songs with moments of upbeat glitter-funk and rollicking neo soul.

It’s not the sort of record you look to for big surprises or revolutionary moments, but if you’re looking for an excellent pop-soul record from an artist who’s going to be around for years to come, you can’t go wrong.

Not Your Muse is an album that will lure you back time and time again, as much for its technical brilliance as any of its other qualities.

‘Not Your Muse’ is not a revolutionary album, but every track is a more than enjoyable listen.
  10. 60
As middle of the road as this singer undoubtedly seems, there is, however, much to commend her debut album, Not Your Muse – a gutsier, wiser and more elliptical set of songs than may at first appear.

Power and sensuality, strength and tenderness and delicious melody. Talented work of a true artist. Do you need something else?

"Something about love, and how complex and heartbreaking it could be"

Celeste voice defines very well the tone of the album, the strength to keep your love, the harsh the love can leave you down, and the sweet melodies to shows that it all worth in the end.

And it's even more implied by the change of genres to the softness of the Soul, the swing of Pop, the power of R&B and the sadness of Heartbreaking songs.

This album is incredible! A true artist with an amazing voice that transcends the same way Adele and Amy do.
