I discovered this artist after watching Sons of Anarchy and I'm very happy I did so. A great musician, and a great to listen to when you need a break from some of the drivel that is being made today. Music is meaningful, and sends shivers down my spine, has a slight Johnny Cash feel to him except with a little more emotion (don't know if that's good or bad, that's for the listener toI discovered this artist after watching Sons of Anarchy and I'm very happy I did so. This album transcends genres from country to folk, to blues, to rock and it does so very elegantly. I recommend this artist and this album to anybody who will listen to me. Expand

The growling menace of his [Jake Smith's] delivery is enough to command your attention and keep you believing. [Oct 2012, p.83]

Smith's candor in this collection of hard-won songs is admirable.

Even when the music flags, Smith sings his way through these hillbilly anthems and barroom laments with eerie, unwavering conviction. [Nov 2012, p.111]
