Deep cuts like "Man or Animal" are as hot as anything this side of Led Zeppelin II. [Jul 2005, p.95]
  2. Lean, hard, strong, and memorable, a record that finds Audioslave coming into its own as a real rock band.
  3. As solid a listen as it may be, one can't help but yearn for a little bit more of the testosterone-charged hard-rock muscle that the band members' resumes evoke.
  4. The foursome has still not found a common sound to call its own.

The album ends up in the same spinning-wheels muck that often bogged down Soundgarden. [27 May 2005, p.136]

The likes of "Be Yourself" lack much of a dimension beyond 'Let's rock out!' [Aug 2005, p.105]

Well... this album really doesn't sound forced like their last one. They seem to have gone a little softer, a little more mainstream, but that's THEIR sound. They aren't copying Rage or Soundgarden. And Morello is really showcased in a lot of the songs. "Doesn't Remind Me" is catchy and awesome, maybe the best on the CD Collapse

I guess they're trying to find a place in the musical rock revolution both RATM and Soundgarden develop and sustain in the 90's. I guess they're trying to find a place in the musical rock revolution both RATM and Soundgarden develop and sustain in the 90's. Give them some time and you'll be mesmerize. Right now they're just rocking out the angst you feel by seeing Blink 182 on top of the charts. Expand

You can't say the songs on this album aren't composed and performed by very talented artists, with catchy tunes and nice melo You can't say the songs on this album aren't composed and performed by very talented artists, with catchy tunes and nice melo beats.. but you can sense a deeper vein that this band needs to tap into and just explode instead of holding themselves back. The punch line: Good, but uninspired! Expand
