It is a cohesive suite of powerfully effective songs with one thing on its mind: "the inexorable march of Time."

They're good for one another; Doseone tones himself down to sound conspiratorial and insinuating, and Jel's samples goad the Notwist to think more about catchiness than Minimalism.

Where as The Notwist traffic in mellow tempos and beautifully seamless surfaces, Dose and Jel conjure all manner of conniption ta[s and noise. [Jul 2011, p.62]

For the most part, you never really know how much you love something until it's gone. But every now and then, it comes back and you're allowed to love it like you should have the first time around. 13 & God came back. You know what to do.

While that obsession with the "big sleep" gives Own Your Ghost a gloomy power, these cross-cultural pals might consider a less depressing repertoire next time.

The dividedness of the record is especially plain here. Acher generally gets calm and luscious music, and then all hell breaks loose whenever Dose shows up.

For a group of artists who regularly color so far outside the lines to such dazzling effect, the whole of Own Your Ghost registers as just a bit too rote and predictable, a journey back to grounds already thoroughly explored and reaping much richer rewards the last time around.
