Bit of a guilty pleasure this one! I'm rarely grabbed by a music video but I was by 'Hurricane Jane' from this debut and had to investigate. 'Teach Your Boyfriend' is another great single and to that short list I'd add 'Making Eyes'. Those 3 tracks ARE the album - great Cure meets Bloc Party meets disco pop songs. At a push 'Listen to Your Body' is a serviceable indie disco stomper. The rest ranges from uninspiring to truly awful (the last 2 songs are unlistenable). Just burn those 4 songs and have a warm bath to try and wash away the dirty feeling of listening to the rest! Expand

Wow. A band that blatantly rips off the B-52s, adds the vocals from Hot Hot Heat, and throws in an "awkward indie" sound. There are 3 songs that I MIGHT listen to on a day riddled with boredom (Charm (Again), Limousine, and Hurricane) but there are a majority of completely forgettable songs on this album. There's a difference between giving kudos to an older band by ripping them off Wow. Uh, no. This band was overhyped from the get go and, although they may have shown a little promise on their free ep, the dazzling production ect. gets them nowhere. I'm not sure why the critics scored it so high, especially considering the apologetic tone in their reviews. This album is utterly disposable, though it's good for maybe two spins.

  1. This debut--while not a technically poor album, boasting as it does pop hooks aplenty if you truly focus in, beyond the sometimes irritating vocal tennis--sags where it should soar, dips where it should peak.
  2. Pay no attention to the hype--after all, it didn't do Vampire Weekend any harm--and sit back and listen to one of the most purely enjoyable albums of this year.
  3. Partie Traumatic is the sexiest, most outrageous outright pop album of ’08 so far, hard not to love and (seemingly) even easier to lay.
