    “Stone Your Friends” feels like a homage to early ’90s rock influences. If you’re dreaming of the return to that aforementioned time in rock music but with a 2020s finish, dream no more, Melkbelly are here.

    As an album, PITH begins to drag towards the end, closing with a track rightfully called “Flatness.” But as a series of singles, its meld of ’90s grunge and early-’00s noise is delightfully strange.

    PITH, for all the attention it pays in getting the dressings and staging right, is best when it's replacing one genre's organs with another's, concocting an interesting if beautifully flawed, kind of Frankenstein's Monster.
