I consider 2018’s Digital Garbage one of their finest albums and the fact that Plastic Eternity doesn’t quite measure up to its scorching brilliance is understandable – few records do. This one is looser, less wound-up and perhaps a little less cohesive. But it is always, always nice to have them back. [Aug 2023, p.62]

Plastic Eternity is the rare dead serious, head-trippy album that is also a lot of fun. Here’s to Mudhoney for standing on the precipice and laughing.

Never shy with their political activism, Plastic Eternity is a battle cry for those who share the band’s beliefs. For those who don’t, it’s still a fun alternative album that channels political fury into a fiery collection of aggressive rock.

The trademark humour that seemed less prevalent as a result on 2018's Digital Garbage is satisfyingly back in evidence here, alongside agreeably ragged riffs and an admirable refusal to tighten up. [May 2023, p.31]

Shades of Dead Moon and The Scientists, US 80s hardcore litter tracks like Plasticity and the monstrous swirl of lead single Almost Everything but Mudhoney remain their own, inherent force of nature. [May 2023, p.77]

Plastic Eternity will be a hit-or-miss affair for some listeners, partly due to its length. This is a generous record with 13 tracks in total. There is a feeling of fan service, which is not necessarily a bad thing after 35 years as a band, but self-caricature is avoided.

Plastic Eternity shows Mudhoney are capable of surprising us (and themselves) thirty-five years in, and judging from the results, it won't be the last time they'll pull that off.
