Policy shows that Will is more than capable of getting the kids to wake up. [No. 118, p.53]

    They’re all terrific songs.

Policy is twitchy and endearingly ramshackle, channelling the can-do spirit of early-80s indie and the affability of Jonathan Richman.
  4. Policy is a gloriously unhinged sprawl of a record, but fittingly for the man who constructed sparse piano tech-paeans for the soundtrack to Spike Jonze’s 2013 movie Her, the downbeat moments resonate, too.

On Policy, he proves that he's worth more than playing second or third fiddle.

Policy is enjoyable enough, but one hopes that for its follow-up, Butler takes time to find the most accomplished realisations of his material.

But this album knows what it is, knows what it wants to do, and does it well. "Sing to Me" and "Anna" are stellar tracks; they prove Will Butler can and has come into his own as an artist. Definitely recommend giving it a listen or two. Butler is one to watch. Collapse

Short, sweet, and to the point. Will proved that he simply isn't a tag along for a great band, Arcade Fire. He proved through out the albumShort, sweet, and to the point. Will proved that he simply isn't a tag along for a great band, Arcade Fire. He proved through out the album that musically and vocally he is talented. It's a short album (only 8 songs with a little over 30 minute run time) but surprisingly very good. Expand
