Despite the lack of range, Pretty Girls Like Trap Music goes down as 2 Chainz’ strongest LP to date and will become a reference point for anyone curious about how the towering rap star can service their turn-up needs.

If Pretty Girls Like Trap Music doesn't make the rapper an immediate king of the South, it undoubtedly puts him in line for the title.

Pretty Girls Like Trap Music, his third solo full-length, feels like a cousin to Migos’ Culture, another highlight of 2017—a bit more sinewy but still overflowing with seven-figure absurdism.

While it doesn’t quite have the same urgency as ‘Based on a T.R.U. Story’ or ’T.R.U. REALigion', Pretty Girls Like Trap Music is perfectly positioned to be a 2017 favourite catering to both fans of this generation’s trap music and those that were knee deep in trap during its late ‘90s/early ‘00s inception.

In previous2 Chainz has spent the last 2 years developing his lyrical and technical skills and it shows in Pretty Girls Like Trap Music. In previous albums he could deliver a cute one liner or two but failed to be really engaging, but in this and other projects he's released since Collegrove, his lyrics are consistently great and he is able to switch up flows to make sure things don't get stale. The sales are well deserved. Expand

I didn't dislike him, but I wasn't a fan either. His previous albums were OK at best but nothing that would hold a legacy for him years from now. That however changed with PGLTM. The entire album is consistent like a concept album. It is almost like a trap opera album. 2 Chainz uses much more vocabulary in his verses than youd expect but he does maintain his silly sometimes nonsense rhymes in a good way. I never thought I'd say this, but it is definitely a hip hop classic. Sure its not Kendrick Lamar level, but its a classic no doubt. This might be the most 2017 sounding album of 2017 alongside Gorillaz 'Humanz'. I never really loved the trap genre, but this album is without a doubt the best album within it. Whether 2 Chainz keeps going in this upward spiral or not, this will be the album he will be remembered for. Oh and I know this will produce mega hits for the club. Play it loud and feel the vibes.

His first two albums are generally considered to be straight-forward, fun but shallow trap projects. Considering that, with 'Pretty Girls Like Trap Music", 2Chainz has with little doubt dropped his best project yet. While singles like "Good Drank" and "4 AM" signaled this album would take a darker and more psychedelic approach to trap, it still contains a sense of variety throughout. Songs such as "Bailan" and "OG Kush Diet" contain very sunny, upbeat beats, while others like "Blue Cheese" and "Sleep When U Die" continue the dark and moody atmosphere set by the singles. "Saturday Night" is a guitar-led ballad with lyrics concerning his history of drug-dealing, and it kicks the album off on a high note, while ending on another high note with "Burglar Bars", a very soulful closer that's probably the most emotionally complex track 2Chainz has ever recorded. There are a few low points, like "Realize" with Nicki Minaj, but even considering them, this is a colorfully moody trap album that stands as one of my personal favorite hip hop albums this year.
Favorites: "Saturday Night", "Good Drank", "4 AM", "Big Amount", "It's A Vibe", "Sleep When U Die", "Trap Check", "OG Kush Diet", "Bailan", "Burglar Bars"
    Least Favorites: "Door Swangin", "Realize"
