There is good, near great stuff on this album, unfortunately all of it is loaded up front. After "Trycolour" ,my personal favorite, the pace slows down and things start to drag. Give them credit for trying to make a coherent album and not just a collection of songs, however they seem to understand that live, their strength is in the uptempo songs where Hayley Mary's vocals shine and thrive.

Prisoner remains one of the boldest statements of intent from a fledgling act this year, and while it will be a little too intense for some, it pinpoints the Jezabels as one of the bands to watch from Australia's thriving indie rock scene.

The Jezabels take you through a range, giving you a story rather than simply one snapshot.

[Lead singer, Hayley Mary] keeps things interesting even during the many moments when sheer emo intensity makes the record heavy going.
