Feb 2, 2023Even if there are some places where Queen of Me falls a bit flat, her legacy speaks for itself. The twelve tracks in this album encompass her first full release since 2017, and, if nothing else, it feels wonderful to still have Shania’s distinct voice and genuinely unique perspective in our lives.

Feb 3, 2023At 57 years old, a more than successful career in the music industry and an army of fans behind her, Mrs. Twain would well be within her right to hang up her boots, but she has certainly left us wanting more with ‘Queen Of Me’.
-
Feb 3, 2023She still has plenty of fun, even as she’s fully aware that it’s not the Nineties anymore. ... Sometimes the production choices feel conspicuously dated. ... Queen of Me is more successful when its pop references feel attuned to her sensibilities as a global pop O.G.
-
Feb 2, 2023Were Twain willing to engage with additional genres, it’s quite possible Queen of Me would hold up as a more engrossing listen. Instead, what we’re given is the audio equivalent of speed dating. The songs hint at Twain’s vivacious personality, but never quite let us in.
-
Feb 3, 2023An over eagerness to keep up to date has resulted in making Twain sound less mature than her successor. On Queen of Me, Twain comes across as Swift’s over eager auntie, charging onto the dancefloor, determined to prove she still has the moves to cut it with the kids.
-
Feb 3, 2023Twain’s team of co-writers and producers have past credits with Halsey, Justin Bieber, Pitbull, Fred again.., and Iggy Azalea, and too often the material they’ve assembled for Twain feels like third-tier scraps intended for other clients. Queen of Me’s bland and plasticine arrangements are a far cry from the energy and sizzle of hits like “That Don’t Impress Me Much” and “Man! I Feel Like a Woman.”
-
Feb 3, 2023Ignoring how incohesive Queen of Me’s track list proves to be—the schmaltzy “Last Day of Summer,” for example, is a pedestrian reflection of young love that feels entirely out of place on an album filled with tracks related to embracing one’s present image—the songs themselves are frivolous and lack both sonic character and catchy hooks.
