While Queendom isn't the most impactful musical project of the year, it is definitely enjoyable - a light song sequence that follows the classical traits of the 90s and 00s western pop, when celebrating yourself and talking about mellow love through R&B-pop compositions (like 'Hello, Sunset') were part of the playbook. And it is full of simple, catchy and relatable lyrics with well-thought-out hooks.

Their innate knack for pulling off whatever genre is thrown at them remains stronger than ever. It ticks all the boxes that fans would want for a Red Velvet album and has, naturally, great replay value.

It’s easy to see why the bright and engaging “Queendom” is the lead single of the mini-album. But one truth about Red Velvet is that their albums often have some of the best b-sides in K-pop (like “Cool World”, “Body Talk”, “Kingdom Come”, and “Sunny Side Up!”). Queendom is no exception to that rule.

No song here is outright bad, and much of their best assets shine through the banalities, but Queendom feels like a signpost of Red Velvet’s former glory.

Given the period of separation we’ve had from them, it feels a little phoned-in in places and lacking cohesiveness.

Red Velvet proves for the nth time that they have one of the best discographies of the whole K-pop industry.
The album is good. NO CAP.

Queendom was enjoyable. Each song is good.
But this album was not their best. I'll give 8

A big factor could possibly be because none of the songs scream "red velvet" and are sounds that we've heard by the group before. Albeit, not every comeback has to be something innovative, but even releases where they play it safe, like Reve Festival Day 2 and "Umpah Umpah", they still have Red Velvet's "signature" sound. The same cannot be said about Queendom. Hopefully, RV3 isn't as big as a disappointment as this was. Expand
