Album highlight "Last, First" builds to an enormous guitar solo that's deceptively simple. It's a moment that's representative of the melodic and structural quality of Racy, and it establishes Hooray For Earth as an increasingly reliable source of straightforward, catchy songcraft.

There is little emotional resolution in Heroux's songs, but the disruptive grandeur in "Keys" and "Last, First"--crisp, electronic sequencing scarred with scouring power chords and soprano-drone guitar--is pitch-perfect.

The members of Hooray for Earth are locked in with each other and offer up a riskier, more mind-expanding take on their formerly polite sound.

Racy is big, it’s bold, and positions its creators closer to "pop", only to reveal them as a pop band by context rather than nature.

There is kitsch charm throughout. [Nov 2014, p.112]

This makes for an uneven listening experience and detracts from the sharply conceived and executed songs. Three years is a long time to wait for such unbalanced output.

The LP is constructed, played and sung with acute skill, but all done without a hint of pizzazz, little colour, vibrancy or peculiarities--it's all a lackadaisical tumble of synth and guitar.
