Boring ,dull and unoriginal pretty much sum up this record. The only good thing about this is Hayley's voice which ,although nothing amazing, is pretty strong but sadly that alone can't make up for all the wrong that makes up this album.

Another pop-punk band? This stuff has been done to death. Popular music is becoming formulaic these days. Play some power chords over and over, keep a linear drum beat, add an okay singer, write emotional lyrics that pretend to be "deep" but aren't, and you're famous.

Paramore is all about Hayley Williams, and that shows pretty bad on Riot!, the band's second album. The music is as plain and generic as it gets, sounding like just about every other pop rock/emo band out there right now. Hayley is a decent singer, and the melodies, although nothing groundbreaking, are actually quite decent. Unfortunately fairly good melodies never have, and never Paramore is all about Hayley Williams, and that shows pretty bad on Riot!, the band's second album. Williams tries to be witty but ends up sounding whiny and overly cynical (think Anberlin without the clever word plays). At the end of the day this is good music for teens who THINK that they're rockers (fans of the Academy Is, Cute Is What We Aim For, etc) but are actually good pop kids. Skip this if you listen to real music. Expand

I tis an insult to call this real rock music. It is but another faux angsty avril from middle class america. If you own any poprock chick CD (Ashlee, Avril, etc.), don't waste your pocket change on this. Also, on a tangent, doesn't the cover art resemble a much more matured ska band by the name of No Doubt (Rock Steady)? Funny 'cause this just seems to be a failed attempt I tis an insult to call this real rock music. It is but another faux angsty avril from middle class america. Nothing more than a flyover Christian rock band, with brightly colored hair. Music just as bad as Kelly Clarkson. Pass.

  1. The sound quality is ultra-clean, it makes the listening experience relatively risk-free and also brings attention to the fact that there's not a lot of ground being broken here.

[Hayley Williams'] Tennessee crew's second album isn't as charmingly precocious as the first. [Jul 2007, p.116]
  3. Riot sounds like a crunching, flashlight-white amalgamation of Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson, save for token ballad "We Are Broken" that echoes the enchanting eighties sounds of Belinda Carlisle.
