It’s beautifully conflicted and human, and does provide a unique and unforgettable experience that will continue to charm with its paradoxical qualities for years to come.

Sometimes, there really is no substitute for the revelations that come when an artist unlocks the mysteries of their work. But it’s certainly the reason why Rocket feels like one of the year’s most endlessly generous records, as Alex G’s restraint is our gift that keeps on giving.

It is at times unpleasant, but Rocket has no ambitions to score a dinner party. The frantic interchanging of emotions--like the internal monologue of someone with a hellish hangover at ATP in 2009--is a challenging, ambitious progression.

His most well-rounded, diverse, and unrelenting body of work to date.

It's unpolished and emotionally brave, in touch and free as the wind. It's really something. Quite a bedroom window, this one.

An album that ultimately sounds curiously disengaged.

I like this album. This reminds me of a Guided By Voices record (which 90s lo-fi indie rock is a clear influence on Alex here), especiallyI like this album. This reminds me of a Guided By Voices record (which 90s lo-fi indie rock is a clear influence on Alex here), especially considering the mish mash of songs here, and there are plently of standout singer-songwriter material, and just songs in general, like Proud, Bobby, Witch, Judge, and Powerful Man. However, the major issue with the album is the coherency of the record. Namely, there is none. It just shifts from 90s indie rock tunes to weird interludes to whatever the heck Alex wants to put on the record. It's a bit of a mix bag, but I am liking what I'm hearing. Expand
