This album surprised me in some ways, some songs are good and great to hear, i love the way that Jethro Tull mix the flute on rock songs since the beginning of the band and with the name of this record i couldn´t expect less, there are one or two songs that feel a little boring but at the overall that is a good album

I was surprised how good this album is, maybe their best since Under Wraps, another underrated, if totally different, album. That one was electronic, with lots of great songs and more traditional flute and guitar adroitly integrated. The arrangements are both agile and emphatic, by turns jaunty, gyrating, and exuberant.

While the tricksy chord changes upon which most tracks are founded may be clever, or possibly ground-breaking, these recordings seriously lack oomph.

What's surprising is that Anderson can kick up more menace with his flute than any number of hoarse roaring voices and thrashing guitars. ... The music lightens up when Anderson moves on to the sagas themselves, but the intricacies remain. As do the idiosyncratic allusions. [Jun 2023, p.78]
