When Måneskin tap into the youthful exuberance and fiery eccentricity that got them here in the first place, though, they’re still utterly unstoppable.

With Rush!, Måneskin make good on their Eurovision rock promise, delivering an album that's campy, inspired, and thrilling all at the same time.

None of the 17 songs waste any time getting where they're ultimately going. ... Seriously, it's time to believe. [Apr 2023, p.74]

Thanks to co-producer Max Martin, who contributed to some of these tracks and knows his way around a hook, their version of rock is an aural food processor of stadium chants, processed-sounding beats, and wind-tunnel blare. Sometimes, an undeniable ear-worm emerges. ... It’s hard to tell how seriously Måneskin take any of this silliness. Certainly, being over the top suits them best.

Pop uber-producer Max Martin is somewhat inevitably on hand to make sure the album gleams even harder than this sharp, lurid foursome do on their own. Unfortunately, Rush! is also a record that dashes about trying to tick all the boxes, with Måneskin’s English-language songs far outnumbering the Italian ones.

Unsurprisingly, it’s overcooked in places. In addition to super-producer Max Martin (Taylor Swift, Katy Perry), an array of producers come and go on the 17-track record that nearly stretches to a full hour. ... But little could possibly dampen the record’s spirit and spunk.

Rush!, their first album recorded mainly in English, is absolutely terrible at every conceivable level: vocally grating, lyrically unimaginative, and musically one-dimensional. It is a rock album that sounds worse the louder you play it.

A song that is seemingly about nothing like "Bla Bla Bla" reads like a novella, and you can't wait to see where it goes. Genius. Rolling Stone's review was wrong about "Baby Said"... Damiano is the one making all the boring conversation and his woman wants him to stop and take care of business, not the other way around. Just another example of this band doing the opposite of what you would expect. Another review compared Rush! to rock bands of 20 years ago, but the big difference is that Måneskin, for whatever reason, don't sound like whiny poseurs, even though when you first see them you're convinced that's exactly what they are. Here in lies the genius of the band. They blindside you with an alternate reality that you weren't expecting. What should not be surprising is that an Italian band is creating such compelling art. You can see that they have experimented a lot with their sound, traveling between different genres, going from more serious and deep lyrics to more light and fun ones. Maybe I would have preferred that there were a couple more songs in Italian, but I would say that the album exceeded my expectations. Well done! Expand

Every damn song has a little intro,a main riff and a ten seconds "solo", and you have to go through 17 copycat songs. Strip 'em of all the visuals, the fancy videos and you remain with absolute nothing.
MTV garbage at its best, the apotheosis of commercial music, all based on looking and glamour and not on the songwriting.
