  1. Of Montreal's most focused and powerful sounding record yet.
  2. Under The Radar
    90
It may not be the band's definitive moment... but, arguably, it is the experimental indie pop album of the summer. [#7]
  3. Satanic Panic in the Attic is idiosyncratic without being hokey, and although the band has been stiffed recognition for the consistency of their previous work, this album should make the group much more difficult to ignore.
  4. While Satanic Panic in the Attic is unlikely to make significant waves outside of Elephant 6 and indie-pop circles, those lucky enough to hear it (and persist with it) will find very little to complain about.
  5. Alternative Press
    80
A fantastic musical landscape that's practically carnivalesque. [Jul 2004, p.136]
  6. Magnet
    80
It's hard to imagine a better psychedelic-pop record this year than Satanic Panic In The Attic. [#64, p.102]
  7. Taken as a whole then, and with very few weaknesses to point out, Satanic Panic in the Attic might be the best thing this ever-changing band has released since the groundbreaking The Gay Parade.
  8. One of those singular albums that is so richly dense, so unabashedly whimsical and so damned polished.
  9. New Musical Express (NME)
    80
Packs melodic punches with its killer Wilson-esque tunes. [18 Dec 2004, p.51]
  10. Filter

It's hard to believe that a guy so apparently bombed out of his head... can concoct such well-crafted pop songs. [#11, p.98]
  11. Of Montreal have safely entrenched themselves as an institution in the indie rock world, and Satanic Panic shows them as dependable as ever for some of the best pop songs around.
  12. These new stylistic change-ups give Of Montreal a contemporary edge, but dull the pastoral chaos that made them so charming to start with.
  13. Rolling Stone
    70
Sounds like a solid Kinks album covered by a bunch of smart indie boys. [15 Apr 2004, p.151]
  14. Satanic Panic in the Attic is a typically sprawling piece of music for Of Montreal. It runs only 43 minutes, but in that space, the band manage to throw in everything but the kitchen sink in winsome pop experimentation.
  15. A simple exercise in bright, energetic--if somewhat vapid--pop music.
  16. Of Montreal are at least three indie subfads too late.
