Its nine songs, all evocative and transporting, strive toward a new vocabulary for connection, confidence, and queer love.

The entire album feels hard and driving, like electric rain or the tension between two thunderclouds. The fact that Silver Tongue is so thoroughly electric and buzzing is part of what makes it such a convincing rendering of a relationship between two people, galvanized and ultimately realized.

Like Torres' previous album, Silver Tongue takes some time to unfold, but it's well worth it; by fluently expressing the resilience it takes to bounce back from hard times, she comes into her own.

Silver Tongue is an excellent collection of Scott’s strengths as a producer, performer and songwriter as her sounds run the gamut from modern pulsing anxious odes to open confessional natural pleas, each delivered with grace and ease.

Silver Tongue may prove to be a bridge, between a time of turbulence and a period of renewed creative independence. However, even in that, this record is proof that she can remain uncompromisingly herself.

Despite the trials and tribulations, Scott retains her skill for writing beautifully judged songs of candour, power, and potent beauty. Silver Tongue is an album that once again demonstrates what an insightful and empathetic artist she is as she explores the highs and lows of relationships and love.

Re-emerging with off the grid mystique, Torres retains the grit of past efforts while doubling down on off-kilter charisma, securing a slick slice of alt-pop; her most complete and consistent yet.

Recounting the happier memories of her relationship often results in the album’s lightest moments: it’s here where synths soar and possibilities seem endless. Elsewhere, Scott employs some of her most evocative lyrics yet.

More TORRES is a good thing, especially after a worrisome interlude when it seemed the artist might be done. And Silver Tongue is compelling evidence that she is not.

At just nine tracks and 36 minutes, Silver Tongue runs the gamut on aural and ethereal moods, leaving Torres with one her most emotionally fulsome and satisfying records.

Torres takes over production and plays most of the instruments on her fourth studio album, “Silver Tongue” (Merge). It was a good call, her strengths as a songwriter, singer and musician fully realized.

Even as Scott’s ambition sometimes clashes with the content of the actual songs, Tongue is both her most intimate and eclectic album thus far.

This demonstration of versatility provides a hint of what could happen if the yin and yang find a little peace. As it is, on Silver Tongue, their occasional struggle leaves us with a worthy album with definite highlights, but some unfulfilled potential.

It’s just a shame that not enough of the flair she finds for juxtaposition reappears on this fourth album as memorable music.

Heavy in sensibility, TORRES doesn't know how to give a creative twist to a music that wants to be big and intimate. Sometimes is boring and some others it's kind of interesting. Mackenzie Scott's voice is not the most beautiful and the concept that she explores in "Silver Tongue", even if it has a clear size, it doesn't feel strong or complete.
