Producing the album themselves, he and the band also zero in on a perfectly period musical and sonic vibe for this outing.

McPherson’s album is so far ahead of the rest of the 2018 pack, everyone else is having to eat his Christmas dust. All tracks are originals, every one of them a keeper.

Socks is a durable holiday gift, but one that's immensely more fun and enjoyable than its wry title implies.

JD McPherson is a vivid reinterpreter of the strutting rock ’n’ roll of the 1950s. His holiday album, Socks, is a collection of original songs with startlingly original conceits.

Music like this usually gets incredibly high marks for having a crystal clear concept and vision. However, this is nothing all that new or even interesting. 3rd grade classes are going to love it as the holiday party gets going around 1 in the afternoon. I think only great, new music should get really high grades though. Expand
