    Soft hits on some deeply buried emotions (“I left scraps inside of you” on Soft Opening; “If you feel a rusted heart/don’t let them know” on Rusty), but does it with such grace that it’s easy to convince yourself this is an album of all-forgiving love.

    When the ways Bodan tries to eliminate distance come together--the voice, the lyrics, the rawness of the emotion on display--the final product can induce claustrophobia. The effect is undeniably powerful, but there's a fine line between powerful and overwhelming, and his work should grow more potent as he manages to find a balance between the two.

    On Soft, Bodan is assisted by several producers, and while the backdrops range from light drum'n'bass to the kind of stark and lurching beats heard more commonly on labels like Tri Angle and Modern Love, the album isn't quite as scattered as the singles.
