    Avoiding easy cliches that exist in this universal experience, Claud brings humour and light to what could have easily been a reproduction of any Adele album.

    Super Monster’s songs are each a self-contained story, but it’s unclear whether each song relates to a different person in Claud’s life or if they all revolve around the same person. Regardless, the unique identity in each one of the 13 tracks is what makes it such a terrific and arresting listen. Claud’s dreamlike quality of writing makes breakups sound nostalgic, unrequited love enchanting, and rejection a worthwhile pursuit.

    There’s a level of introspection present on the record that’s hard to duplicate, and when coupled with a stunning exploration of queer relationships, it creates something truly extraordinary. And frankly, triteness is solvable, and there’s beauty in the simplicity.

The 21-year-old Claud Mintz tackles the up and down experiences of finding oneself in her debut album Super Monster.

    The album starts with the catchy and fun track Overnight depicts the typical experience of being young and falling in love quickly sets the tone for this quirky album. In the track, Gold, Claud expresses her anger and frustration towards people who were not there when she needed them the most. She then dives deeper into her longingness with her ex in Soft Spot tapping melancholy by reminiscing memories with her as she sings "We used to lie in bed and talk for hours about everything". Claud also has a knack for referencing cities and places in her music which is a creative way for listeners to imagine and paint each picture and story from spending her Friday night with her date at a bar figuring out whether she's into her and looking for a place to confess her feelings in the track In or In-Between to asking a person to hop on a train and spend time with her in California in the track Cuff Your Jeans to leaving the laid back life in LA and finding oneself to be a better person in the track Ana to living in Chicago and thinking of bumping with a past lover in New York during summer in the track Guard Down to contemplating leaving her town and moving on while walking in Chinatown in the track This Town. While Jordan is a sad song tackling the drama of being in a relationship and doing whatever it takes as saying sorry for mistakes she did not make to preserve the romance. Then Claud pumped up the mood in an anti-patriarchy song of That’s Mr. **** to You featuring Melanie Faye is a classic song of dealing with offensive slurs and dusting it off. Pepsi has a breezy vibe with Melanie Faye's guitar solo can be a good song for gazing out while transiting in a bus, a cab, or a train. Claud ended the album with Falling with the Rain, a song she wrote about being in a dark place and feeling down when her mom got sick and needed surgery but being optimistic in bouncing back.

    Claud reminded us of our coming of age experiences through her poetic storytelling and clever references in every song. Her roller-coaster emotions of falling in love to breaking up are so relatable and enjoyable at the same time. Super Monster deals with catchy love songs genuinely capturing Claud's heartfelt and aching vocals gave us a glimpse of the hardship and her experiences of falling in love as a queer individual. I am giving this album an 8/10.
