The songs aren’t hackwork--they’re catchy and funny and sexy and daring.

The best parts of the album are on the first half and showcase Lovato’s swagger, especially the standout gospel-tinged title track.

This is where Tell Me You Love Me improves on Lovato’s previous albums: It gives you enough space to see Demi as something other than a no-holds-barred belter.

Although there are ghosts of traditional soul threaded through the record, the production is firmly modern, filled with electronic flair and allusions to hip-hop rhythms. It's a sound that suits Lovato, who has never positioned herself as a retro-soul singer but has repurposed older sounds for a fresh audience.

Unfortunately, an excess of downtempo tracks mires Tell Me You Love Me's momentum in its second half, concluding with a pair of refreshing but nearly identical back-to-back acoustic-driven R&B songs that might as well be a medley.

The LP gets bogged down in chilled-out trap pop (see the Lil Wayne-assisted "Lonely"). But slow jams like "Concentrate" perfectly balance the downtempo and the energetic.

One of the best albums I've ever heard. Demi delivered vocals, lyrics and honesty. You can really feel what she's singing.

This album is a great amalgamation of R&B and Pop. Demi's growth as an artist is very apparent and it's a great sight to see.

She is a powerhouse vocalist yet has managed to showcase her softer tone on a few tracks on this masterpiece. The album is extremely versatile containing soul ballads to upbeat pop/trap tunes along with soothing and refreshing R&B bops. Demi is an amazing artist, far from boring. I see some people sayng she is horrible maybe they just perfer to listen to the whispers that selena gomez delivers but I perfer an artist. Expand
