    Pretty disappointing entry from Chance.. Seems to have included a lot of mediocre songs for streams, not the highest highs, and pretty low lows. I expected more after being a big fan of acid rap, and coloring book as well.

    Album's theme is all over the place, boring songs ruin this, as well as childish tracks like "Hot Shower". Could've been a 7 or weak 8 with fewer and focused tracks.    Pretty disappointing entry from Chance.. Seems to have included a lot of mediocre songs for streams, not the highest highs, and pretty low lows. I expected more after being a big fan of acid rap, and coloring book as well.

    Album's theme is all over the place, boring songs ruin this, as well as childish tracks like "Hot Shower". Could've been a 7 or weak 8 with fewer and focused tracks. But clocking in at 19 songs + 3 skits, it's overstaying its welcome, especially in some parts of the second half.

    I will honestly say that Chance is not one of my favorite rappers, but I have appreciated some of his work, plus he's a cool guy; however, that doesn't really excuse this album. Compared to the other work he has created over the past few years, this is extremely weak, even for him. There are some decent songs but I really don't understand how this album is getting 100's and 10's.     Worst Album i have ever listened to by a good artist. Hot shower is the worst rap song of 2019. The big day is ruined by a guy screaming at the top of his lungs. The album has no continuity.

    This is by far the worst project of Chance's career. The 80 minute album revolves entirely around the wedding theme and is full of corny upbeat songs with unconvincing melodies, an awkward production and the artist's worst lyrical performance so far. With the exception of three or four tracks out of a total of 22, this is a long boring mess and the biggest disappointment of the year.

    It lacks depth and meaning.
    His singing is unbearable on this album. He seems more fake than ever. Every album after acid rap just gets progressively worst and it's quite sad to see Chance stray away from his roots on 10 Day and Acid Rap.     Some tracks like 5 Year Plan and Do You Remember are good, but with 22 tracks, many of which are bad like Hot Shower and Zanies and Fools, this was a very disappointing debut album from one of the most promising artists of the decade

    I think Chance the Rapper loves his wife. Honestly, this is Chance’s worst album, and this is coming from a fan of his. Hopefully this isn’t the start of a new era of bad Chance the Rapper albums. If it is, at least he still has a job for Kit Kat...

    This is a massive disappointment compared to his previous work such as Acid Rap and Coloring Book, which had a more unique and dynamic feel. This album struggles with many ideas and concepts that fails to achieve any meaningful purpose.

    One of the worst albums I have ever heard. It took everything in me to even finish the record. Not sure what happened. Was his music always bad? Or was I just young and dumb with his previous projects? Save yourself some time and skip over this album. Not worth a listen.

    This album is an absolute travesty. A bloated 22 track (77 minute) project with countless filler verses and terrible lyrical moments. Yet another bad album to add to the pile of disappointment that 2019 has been thus far.

    Unfocused, overstuffed and undercooked record with way too many components going to make a cohesive record. From hip house to trap to 90s R&B chance tries it all with a heavy dose of insecure and marriage relating subject matter which can leave the listener feeling tiresome.

    I love all of Chance The Rapper previous project but this project right here is really bad. This album is really hard to listen to. It's too long and the lyrics are so cringy.     The lyrics from Chance The Rapper on this album are some of the worst writing I've ever heard from a rapper on his level. I thought Chance The Rapper was a pretty good lyricist but this album proved me wrong. There isn't a single track on this album that is good. We do have some solid tracks on here because of the features. Every single feature on this album outshines Chance on this album.

It was a complete slog with just a few good tracks and a few decent ones in an overlong tracklist. The skits were terrible and the features were hit or miss.     Unfortunately Chance rambles on with forgettable song after forgettable song. The listening experience ranges from boring to laughably poor. By the end it feels as if you've sat through the longest church service ever. Overall the high points are overwhelmed by the mediocre tracks that fill this album.

    It’s a big big no from me dawg. None of the songs go together, the beats are incredibly boring. While his ability to write is still 10/10, he really needs to not produce anymore. Also why does he seems like he’s chasing trends now? It’s bad, it really is. There are 22 songs and by the end of it you just want to never hear anything elder ever again.

Some songs legitimately sound like they are from a 90’s BET Soap opera. While his actual lyricism and rapping have some bright moments like on All Day Long and Let’s Go On The Run, it’s mostly uninspired and uninteresting. He’s ecstatic and joyous and I’m happy that he’s thriving right now but he’s lost that cutting edge, that hunger and vigor that made him such a raw rapper before. I honestly like his most recent EP better than every single song on this album. I guess I just miss the Old Chano. Not the sound persay but the bite.… Expand

    Pretty satisfying project, it's a fine debut album but just barely. Definitely could've been shorter but there aren't really any bad moments. All the songs are pretty catchy but there's only a few that really surprised me and surpassed my expectations. There's definitely some really clever lyrics and great sampling. Overall it's a fun listen with a handful of gems. Not blown away like IPretty satisfying project, it's a fine debut album but just barely. Definitely could've been shorter but there aren't really any bad moments. All the songs are pretty catchy but there's only a few that really surprised me and surpassed my expectations. There's definitely some really clever lyrics and great sampling. Overall it's a fun listen with a handful of gems. I believe he was influenced heavily by his wedding or “his big day” so he made music similar to his marriage. Although there isn’t a direct and cohesive sound as well as a lack of Chance’s fun personality compared to his past projects, ‘The Big Day’ is still an enjoyable project, even though I do think this is one of his lackluster projects in his discography.… Expand

Which we expected him to, since after all, this is his debut album and his previous projects were mixtapes. Nonetheless, even though this album is much longer, less “fun” than his acid rap or coloring book, that fact in and of itself, shines light on the growth that Chance has achieved in the past couple of years. His new life as a husband and a father, “a family man” and the overcoming of addictions to cigarettes and xans, both of which have been discussed in the the album, his deepening relationship with God etc, all of these factors combine into making the maturity and genius of this album. The Big Day should be critiqued as a stand alone project, as tempting as it is to compare to what he has previously done (which im guilty of myself). Because each has been produced in completely different points in his life which reflects their outcomes. Very strong songs on this album and the goodness of anything he may have done before does not deny that this is great music.… Expand

    Chance moves on from his previous styles into many new different styles + genres, and it’s very successful. from songs such as hot shower to ballin flossin to the title track, there is a huge diversity on the album. While a few tracks/features could have been scrapped, the album is, for the most part, great.

    Chance The Rappers The Big Day is an amazing album, but it falls short in the first four songs in the album. These songs are just outliers in the album. The rest of the album is a very well made album with more of a consistent flow.

    I would prefer that Chance put out a tight album with a few excellent songs, but this album has no direction across its 22 tracks and some embarrassingly bad songs like Hot Shower that sound like demos. This doesn't sound nearly as fun or energetic as Acid Rap and it's disappointing for Chance to put out a record that is this bloated and uninspired.     just an overall slapper. chance doesn't try and do too much outside of what he already done, but thats saying a lot considering he has expanded the genre past its limitations. his music is an artform; the type that may be seen as odd or unorthodox. but its these characteristics of his music, and more specifically this album, that allow for such an enjoyable listen.

    Evidently expectations were way too high for this. It's a good album, and people are going to start realizing that in a year or two when all the buzz has died out. Just don't go into it expecting every song is going to be the best track Chance has ever made.

    Not without its kinks; How Shower is more silly than terrible, but it is also completely out of place - an afterthought-worthy song plugged in after a strong front trio to open the album. Nonetheless, Chance clearly still has a mind for clever-to-charmingly cheesy bars. The depth of previous releases is a bit absent, but it’s still a quality release at its core.

    The hate for this album is actually absurd. It's like a bunch of angry, lonely people got mad that he made an album about the love of his life. It's solid from top to bottom. Great production, some great songs, really polished, and moving in a lot of ways.

You go into the album feeling powerful and as you get to the middle and latter portions it can start to feel like slog. Personally, i'm not a fan of long albums anyways.

    However, if you take the album in doses, you can really enjoy it. Not his best effort for an album, but even a 70% Chance is still better than 90% of the rap game.    … Expand

    As I look through the tracklist for Chance's magnum opus, I can't find anything that even resembles an issue. The absolute range of the features, spanning from Death Cab for Cutie and Shawn Mendes all the way to DaBaby and Megan Thee Stallion, is nothing short of stunning, and the sheer volume of just overall good music Chance is presenting is truly something special. The inclusion of the three skits, spaced perfectly across the album, was a great decision. Not only are they comedy gold, they help break up the music, so that less musically intelligent troglodytes can understand it better. As for Chance himself, he is arguably the best, if not a top three, rapper in the game right now. His ability to open this album on a somber note, heat up and get hype with the biggest hit "Hot Shower", and take a reflective note as he winds down with songs like "5 Year Plan" and Town On The Hill". The range and pure emotion Chance brings in, paired with the ability to turn up as well, makes The Big Day a bonafide classic, and does more than earn its spot among the all time greats. Chance truly put the whole game on notice with his skill, talent and versatility across The Big Day.    … Expand

    Sonically is VERY pleasing and the collabs are cool with me. Love the production on most tracks. The Nicki collab missed smt besides exellent verse of her the sing missed smt. But fav track is ETERNAL!!!

Verses contained tons of lyrics mentioning his wife and how happy is to the point it just got corny. No it is not bad to talk about how happy you are in life and how beautiful your marriage is, but it was to the point where it got audience's saying " We get it chance you're married!" Overall the project was messy and not as captivating as his last projects. He really could've just made this into an ep with some tracks on this list. The best songs in my opinion were Hot Showers, Handsome, Ballin Flossin because I like the Chicago house beat type of feel, and All Day Long.

    If you are a Chance fan give it a listen, but don't expect much.    … Expand

    This album is a thing of beauty. Truly personal. Wonderful vibes. And rewards the listener with every play.
    Sure, not all of the songs are 10s - But the ones that are - man. Wow.
    So refreshing in today's scene - BIG themes of marriage and love make this the hip hop album of the year for me.
    The love story playing out in Chance's music over the last few years is something truly special.

I think it has very little potential, what it lacks isn't substance or grit but simple put it, appeal. Not many wanted to hear what this project had to offer and that's not bad just was not a massOver all the album gets a C+ (or 6.15/10 more accurately) for the amount of emotion put into the project.     TBD lacks an overall theme and features little to no continuity. A low effort output in both production and writing, as this record features some of the corniest bars on any album this decade. TBD truly lacks any depth or substance. A poorly mixed, poorly written, and poorly conceived record. Very few highs and many, many lows.

Kind of comes off backhanded against people who aren't living exactly the way he does).

    Now I'm all for artists trying new things (as risky as it may be on an official debut album after you've built a rep), but this is basically taking his identity as an artist and a person away from the interpersonal connectivity of open, unreserved socialization (and hip-hop is generally a very socially minded genre) to... very strictly the commercialized wedding / family circuit.
    It's strange to me to even call this trying something new, because Chance sounds like the majority of his rhymes are just spur-of-the-moment expressions more than anything that had any concise planning attached to it outside of a song's general premise. I don't think these tracks really do anything that I haven't heard somewhere before, either.

    Every time I find myself starting to think I might end up enjoying a song to some degree, I end up facepalming for half the track as he says something that just makes the song irredeemable. I literally cringed at least once on almost every track here. ALMOST. There were a couple tracks where I wasn't thrown a major road block on the road to enjoyment, but I was still stuck in traffic somewhere I didn't ask to go to with a broken GPS. There were maybe three spots on the album where it seemed to have some sort of naturally effective dynamic with his delivery, but unfortunately, to me, it felt like bait to keep me trying to salvage some quality from this I can actually apply positively to my life or Chance's identity in any fashion. By the time I made it to the last track on the first listen, I legitimately couldn't deal with listening to the album anymore. When I was a kid, I went to a few weddings of Polish relatives, but I don't speak Polish, and I couldn't go anywhere for hours while everyone around me was extremely intoxicated and I was all alone; This album gave me the same exact feeling of disassociation.

    I really wish the moments that made me cringe were only once or twice per track; Almost every line in the first verse of the opening song just adds to the feeling of needing to cover my face and eventually just shout "WHY!?"
    But then the second verse is like... kinda alright. Maybe in comparison? I feel a bit too disoriented when I listen to this to really tell. Regardless, that's one of the highlights of the album. It's just not worth sitting through the bad parts to get to it, or through the good parts just to let them go sour almost every single time.

    Having to sit through 77 minutes of this over 22 songs made me start to feel like I fell into a black hole where positivity goes to eat itself; Nobody is this mindlessly happy. It's legitimately worrying me. Like... is he secretly being emotionally abused by his wife and he has to write these songs in order to continue to live? What is going on here?
    I never wanted to feel this concerned for another man's happiness! What the hell did this album do to me?

    If you never understood what it's like to have all your friends get married and stop hanging out: Here it is when Chance does it.
    I know there're going to be some people out there who enjoy this album.
    More power to you for having access to excessive levels of positivity that I wish I could harness.
    But there's no way you can convince me this album is in good taste. I'm really sorry about all of this.

    Chance, I know you're not reading this because my review reflects a really bad experience regarding something you love. But you really shouldn't take it too personally because you're already so much more fortunate than your critics, you know? You're obviously damn good at what you do, it's just...
    Music has many elements to it that make it enjoyable. You've been having mastered combining these elements, with interesting timing, melodic sense, vocal timbre (post-10 Days), honest expression, dope word-play, meanings worth thinking about that apply to how we interact with other people... All of that combined creates this depth that creates fantastic music that's worth listening to on repeat and potentially living by. I think that this describes how you are on Acid Rap. That is not what I'm getting here past only getting glimpses that you can be this person. I hope your expression stays true, just don't let success get in the way of having something to yearn for.    … Expand

    The Big Day is a messy project. Songs range from good to decent to Hot Shower (aka Hot Garbage). There's nothing about this project that really stands out. It feels incomplete and a little bland.

    Everything blends together with there being a whopping 22 tracks. By the end, you feel empty and you just wasted more than an hour of your life on a project that had no idea what it was going    The Big Day is a messy project. The Big Day is not in the slightest bit cohesive and a lot of the time the album's not fully realized sound doesn't make up for it.

    Coming off of 2 brilliant releases, Chance drops a dud. Overfilled with tracks, features, and at times extremely corny lyricism, this album does nearly nothing for the listener. Chance really had something to say in his previous 2 projects, in this one it seems he would rather have a popular TikTok dance craze.

    TBD, on the other hand, wrangles with value-laden mindlessness in a manner that is both fun and endearing. TBD succeeds, in other words, on the merit of its recontextualisation of current trends into a project that is equal parts soapbox and sellable product.

    Occasional nearsighted lyrical perspectives and three or four excellent but inessential tracks keep The Big Day from quite reaching masterpiece status, but it's still the most grown up (and the most polished) rendering of Chance's eternally bright spirit in his catalog.
