This lone soldier is at his best when the cavalry arrives, with Jagger honking on a languid You Di The Crime, and Keef tussling with Jeff Beck over a fine Cognac. [Summer 2018, p.89]

With its crowded track list and extended runtime, this album does not necessarily come off as an essential album in Guy's oeuvre. However, there are some strong tracks in here, and it is worth a listen for any blues aficionado.

That's a lot of songs about life and death, but The Blues Is Alive and Well has a lot of songs in general--a full 15, lasting well over an hour. This excessive length means there's a lot of room for levity, too.
