Simply being intense and living in technical thresholds gave the music its only all around worth, which shouldn’t be overlooked, but it certainly doesn’t go far enough to be noteworthy due to the music being careful and careless in all the wrong places with a painful sound and overly regimented musical tactics, proving that intensity through intensity equates to nothing but cheapness. Converge has not been going so much through a process of transformation as one of maturing. Still angry and rebellious as in their early releases, they also display a much wiser and patient perspective that only years of experience can bring.

It's still heavy as fuck, but it's also textural, emotional, diverse and defiant as fuck, too. [No. 148, p.52]

If anything, the songs are more dramatic than ever, making greater use of near-silence and dynamics to underline hooks and refrains.
