Leo looked inward, assessed all that happened to him, realized he still had something to say, and made a stunning record that's one of the year's very best.

This seven-year stretch has obviously been both reinvigorating and emotionally devastating for Leo. Fortunately, he’s channeled all that grief, anger, and inspiration into another 14 tracks packed with commentary and experimentation.

The Hanged Man, despite some of its thinness and unevenness, is still a great record.

It definitely feels like a solo Ted Leo album, not a "Pharmacists" album. By that I mean, it's a little more personal, a little slower and less rock-forward. Worth a listen! Expand
