Still Corners stitches a seamless amalgamation of lyrics, vocals, production and song composition, all of which makes The Last Exit an early contender for one of 2021’s finest, and most enduring releases—one to listen to, absorb and bask in.

Sonically drifting between graceful ambience and somber chamber pop, The Last Exit hits several peaks throughout its eleven pieces.

Album highlight "White Sands" is a soundtrack in miniature, the acoustic and electronic tones combining like a neon-streaked empty road. [Feb 2021, p.37]

Even if The Last Exit is sometimes a little too wispy, it's still a fitting soundtrack for getting lost on the open road.

While Murray's lyrics are consciously evoking images of old timey Americana – desolate arcades, voodoo rites, thunder in the mountains – your mileage will vary on whether you find it charming or cheesy. Regardless, The Last Exit is a road trip worth taking. Murray’s sultry croon is effortlessly affecting.

In places, they can be a little too on-the-nose - ‘Till We Meet Again’, for instance, literally has some Lynchian ‘ethereal whooshing’ whistling away in the background for much of it, at least before a freewheeling guitar solo salvages proceedings - but ‘The Last Exit’ is largely worthy of the cultural touchpoints it so proudly nods to.

It finds the band cruising along the middle of the road, with occasional interesting detours.

What makes a great album is consistency. It’s not only 1 or 2 or 3 songs that are great. Yes there are better songs than others but it’s all subjective which one you think is best. At the end all of it is brilliant. And cohesive so all of the songs are connected but different. There is no monotony. There’s a range of melody and progression that is unique to every song but at the end it all connects. That’s what makes a great album. It tells a story, and you’re along for the ride.. Expand

The album is certainly a keeper, keeps great company and there are nice details to watch for. But for some reason it doesn't grow with me. The opening track and namesake of the album "The Last Exit" is the best track in there and will be totally proved to be one of the best tracks of 2021 by the end of the year.
On the whole: Very good stuff !

    P.S. 1 i would give it a 7.5 score if half-points were an option.
P.S. 2 great for travelling by car.
