For an album inspired by its movie, The Lion King: The Gift seems trying to stray away from its essence. While it's good to keep everyone aware of black people issues, this album should has been describing the movie itself. The existence of so many interludes (13, which almost comprises half of the whole) aren't necessary to be there, as all the songs aren't really corresponding to them. For an album inspired by its movie, The Lion King: The Gift seems trying to stray away from its essence. Except the interludes are the only thing that actually necessary.

Like the movie, Beyonce just treads the same musical scenes with a more "modern" sound, which sometimes leads to the songs falling straight on their faces, like for example in the Kendrick Lamar collaboration "Nile" and the bloated "Brown Skin Girl".

This was an interesting concept for an album, but this is something that isn't meant for me. I would rather listen to Homecoming again.

The album itself is far from being the best but also not the worst. Though I have to complement Beyoncé and/or her management team, no one can beat those brand marketing strategies.

Overall, it works and is another jewel in her crown — one that she, overall, can be proud to call hers.

Ultimately, The Gift is a deft balancing act that weighs personal songwriting flourishes and meaning with Disneycore tropes, as well as a sincere desire to celebrate the music of the African diaspora with its fundamentally commercial obligations.

On The Lion King: The Gift, Beyoncé deftly connects a kid's flick to something bigger, honoring not only Africa and its traditions but also shifting perspective to future destiny and greatness. It's a superior statement and a lesson on how to properly execute a winning soundtrack.
