While not as obnoxious as it could have been thanks to some interesting harmonic shine, Mayer’s inability to leave his run-down circle and craft melodies that truly embody his emotion leaves this album to only impact those who already worship him. My Score: 105/180 (Okay) = 5.8/10

Extremely average album when compared to continuum, no flow through the arrangement at all. He has written some classic upbeat rock/funk tunes which really get you going but then destroyed the album with some of his worst ballads to date. When did he decide to write Disney music? (You're gonna live in my forever). Really does not suit.

It’s progress, probably, that Mayer keeps the condescension to a dull sneer, but this also makes everything sound that much more anodyne.

The Search for Everything succeeds because he's not donning a new costume: instead, he's settling into a groove he can claim as his own, and it feels like he's at home.

The most deeply personal album Mayer has ever released. At the same time, the slickness of the music blunts some of the impact. To nearly the same degree that Mayer’s lyrics explore the limits of control, his music seeks to enforce it.
