    Her confidence and grit have increased, though that's a double-edged sword. She's become especially reliant on a yowling vibrato that's a terrific fit for the brush-off of "(1-2-3-4-5-6-7) Count the Days" (a special edition bonus track) but doesn't leave much room for vulnerability.

    For the most part, The Soul Sessions, Vol. 2 does feel right: it has the form and sound of classic soul while never acknowledging that R&B continued to develop past, say, 1972. For an audience that agrees with that thesis, this is fun.

Voltar ao ínício de sua carreira. Apesar de não ser tão literal, mas foi assim que a Joss Stone resolveu lançar o seu sexto álbum, The Soul Sessions Volume 2. Lançado pelo selo que ela criou o CD é a continuação do primeiro trabalho da carreira dela lançado em 2003 e que tinha regravações de canções dos anos '60 e '70 e algumas canções contemporâneas com novos arranjos. O que poderia resultar em algo datado ou com cheiro de desespero consegue se sobressair devido ao um componente fundamental: o talento de Joss.

    O principio básico de The Soul Sessions é a regravação de músicas e para isso precisa de uma cartela de músicas que façam jus a essa "necessidade". Infelizmente, aqui a escolha geral não é tão boa quanto da primeira vez, mas tem boas escolhas. O mais curioso é que o álbum realmente deslancha lá na faixa 8 e atinge a versão especial do álbum que contém quatro músicas. Se quando Joss lançou o primeiro álbum era impressionava com sua voz ainda crua com um poder impressionante, hoje a maturidade dos anos trouxe para ela uma sabedoria em saber como usar seu instrumento e também uma experiência vocal impressionante. Dentro do álbum temos alguns momentos que devo destacar: (For God's Sake) Give More Power To The People faz Joss invocar sua Aretha interior, The Love We Had (Stays On My Mind) é uma balada soberba para corações despedaçados, investindo em um rok/soul com um arranjo genial tem The High Road e da versão deluxe vem a acachapante Nothing Takes the Place of You. O álbum poderia ter sido muito mais, mas o resultado faz jus ao um pouco do talento da Joss.    … Full Review »
