Jun 19, 2017With this record, there is Britpop, Radiohead, Spiritualized, grunge, trip-hop and more basking under an astral, space-rock umbrella, and Pumarosa have turned it all into a contorting, ornamental obelisk.
-
May 19, 2017Here is an album that embraces every fibre of your being; generous in its awe-inspiring and beautiful moments. It’ll keep you guessing every minute of its hour long run. It’s uniquely Pumarosa and there’s nothing else quite like it.
-
May 19, 2017Packed full of genius--with a few dips that promised more--for the most part, this does play a little like a Greatest Hits. An impressive achievement from such a new band.
-
May 19, 2017Frontwoman (and visual artist) Isabel Munoz-Newsome steals the show with her haunted-chanteuse vocals, generally floating and ephemeral, but always powerful. The arrangements complement and flesh out her tales of love, sex and identity.
-
Q MagazineMay 19, 2017A concept record about femininity that finely balances intelligence with accessibility, The Witch gets better and better with repeated listens. [Jul 2017, p.112]
-
May 26, 2017All ten entries on The Witch are exceptional. As a unit, they compose an engrossing aural experience. It’s an album a band would normally release as their third or fourth LP, once they’ve found their groove.
-
May 22, 2017Slighter songs such as the Britpoppy My Gruesome Loving Friend or the trip-hoppy Barefoot aren’t as arresting, and the new-agey lyrics coupled with Isabel Munoz-Newsome’s impassioned, highly mannered vocals can grate. But overall, producer Dan Carey smooths their varied styles into a surprisingly magnetic debut.
