The songs on This Is Another Life are so well written, so finely paced, and so relatable in the sentiments and predicaments they weave together, there’s little justification in chiding the album for not making it patently clear that art alone doesn’t redeem misfortune and anguish.
  2. Jun 13, 2013

Beyond all the heartbreak, Lortz has penned a beautiful record of someone taking those first few difficult steps.
  3. Jul 9, 2013

The music on This Is Another Life isn’t the kind that boasts colour, or even deep and dark hues, but rather is full of big strokes of dull greys.
  4. Jun 13, 2013

The execution of This Is Another Life may be its best feature, but “Villain” shows Lortz is at his best when he assesses the damage, rather than splitting it sideways.
  5. Uncut

The spread, encompassing piano and mellotron, is pretty; the songs rather maudlin. [Sep 2013, p.85]
  6. Jun 13, 2013

The darkness is where Lortz repeatedly returns, and when he does, the album swoons into a near-stasis.
  7. Under The Radar
    Jun 13, 2013
    40
An overly mellow, maudlin, and melancholy outing that takes a well-played vibe and rides it until a 44-minute album seems overlong. [Jun-Jul 2013, p.97]
