Overall it's an enjoyable album which will certainly please EDM fans looking for something new Expand

Avicii has been a household name in the world of House music, releases several singles and EP's we never got a full length album, but his debut "True" is finally here. And as a Dance album it tries some new tricks with adding Country/Bluegrass, seeing that on paper it would look stupid, but Avicii cleverly blends the two surprisingly well as the first half was pretty good. And as a Dance album it tries some new tricks with adding Country/Bluegrass, seeing that on paper it would look stupid, but Avicii cleverly blends the two surprisingly well as the first half was pretty good. Unfortunately the second half turns into standard Dance music, and much like most House music, there's no real story as it's just beats, rhythms, and sound, which can work if done right, but it's not trying too. Still, fans of Avicii will enjoy what he releases here. Like I said the blending of Dance and Country is very effective here as songs including "Hey Brother" and "Wake me Up" all sound catchy, upbeat, and fun. Along with the hypnotic "Dear Boy" and "Addicted to You" the first half sticked with me for all twelve songs. But the second half is very vanilla House music which for the most part sound either good or okay. Still flaws aside "True" is a solid debut for Avicii and i'm curious to hear more about him, as he maybe one of the few producers out there who can blend genres very well. Expand

True is one of the best album this year. Remember that EDM has expanded to common people recently, Avicii serves us a new wave of EDM. So different kind than a traditional theme in EDM, he makes lot of his song so turn-out-180-degrees but still working and eargasm. Full rate from me.

The album is a great step forward for EDM but not for Avicii. That is not to say that the album isn't successful or good, but Avicii needs should stick to what he does quite well because in this new direction, he deviates a little too far from his beaten path and falls short. I would definitely recommend listening to the whole album, and although the style is catchy and smooth, characterized by an old western style piano and a bluegrass acoustic guitar with heavy bass, which end up working out for him in a way I didn't expect, the whole thing just leaves something to be desired

Album very well built, great guest artists on vocals, excellent joke that he does with country influences. Avicii has a bright future. ''Sambou'' no David Guetta.

An innovative album. Mixing dance and country together turned out to be a good idea. The opening track is pretty awesome. Wonderful stuff.

Unfortunately, the rest of the album doesn't rise to the level of that track. Other good tracks: Hey Brother, Dear Boy, and Lay Me Down.

In many senses it is near a perfect album. It has some originality in the sound, lyrics are meaningful and well written (heck, it has lyrics!), songs last just as long as they should, but still leave you in a need for more. It brings some value to music in general and doesn't leave you blank. And sounds just like that. Nostalgic, cool and puts a smile on your face.

Highlights (except all): Heart Upon My Sleeve and Edom

My favorite electronic artist and my favorite album. This album has two of Avicii's hits (Wake Me Up, and Hey Brother) and some other good tracks (Addicted To You, Dear Boy, Liar Liar) some songs were boring to me and I skipped them. Other than that, this album is great for anyone who wants to dance at any moment of the day.

I feel that people who gave this album such a low average rating is due to the fact that they haven't checked out some of the underated songs in this album, such as "Dear Boy", "Heart Upon My sleeves" and "Liar Liar".

Avicii just masters the field of EDM and captures your emotions. 'Wake Me Up' and 'Hey Brother' are the star songs of the album and I almost constantly have all the songs from this and his other albums on loop all the time.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. A great album composed by Avicii. The melodies and chords are close to perfect with a large amazing of interesting techniques. One of the best edm albums. Lack some quality in sound design and some tracks could probably benefit from another master draft. Expand

True is a good album by Avicii. The best stuff in the balbum comes from the singles: Hey Brother, You Make Me, Wake Me Up, Addicted to You and Lay Me Down. With other good songs like Liar Liar and Dear Boy, this album manages to maintain regularity until Shame on Me, which is the worst song on album. In general, it's an average album, but with some nostalgia moments and with good songs.

True is an album that takes one type of music and moulds it into something completely different, allowing Avicii to cement himself as one of the best DJs in the world.

Don’t see True as the album in which dance music imports the sounds of the American heartland into the club in hopes of digging up new audiences, or even new ideas; see it as the one in which country takes its place front and center in global pop.

No one demonstrates the artist-as-cash-machine ethos better, as the mechanical churn of commerce rings loudly on each and every track.
