An average to good album, but it feels like Stockdale is putting less and less effort into making the music unique. This is especially apparent in 'Pretty Peggy', which could have been produced by ANY band; the only thing making it sound like a Wolfmother track is Andrew's voice, which isn't enough of a distraction on it's own. That said, some of the riffs are their best since the first album.

This is truly a rock album and that's it. It doesn't pretend to reinvent the wheel, it doesn't have to. It resembles more of 80s heavy than 70s hard to my ears, and that fits like a glove for Wolfmother sound. A real treat for fans. Enjoy. I'm sure I will. Expand

Unimaginative, unoriginal and lacking in real quality as always. Yet, if you're looking for a good riff (and good riff only), Wolfmother is a pretty good choice.

As usual, Stockdale rips off EVERYBODY! The riffs are cool, and the production is pleasing, but the lyrics are banal. "The Love That You Give" is a banging opener, but things are pretty much downhill from there. Good for a listen or two before heading back to some Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath.

+ Polished. Rich and full sounding guitar.
-- Bland. Unimaginative. Impersonal lyrics. Cliche 70's rock sound. Forgettable.

Notable song: "Best of a Bad Situation"

Andrew Stockdale managed to make an even more generic version of Wolfmother's first album. The lyrics are painfully bad, and none of the riffs are memorable this time around. There's nothing on this album that Wolfmother hasn't done better before. I thought half-produced release "New Crown" was bad, but this is even worse.

It's classic Wolfmother, with great riffs, amazing drums and Andrew's typical voice. If you like the 70's rock/ stoner rock, this album it's the right choice.
Advice: buy the deluxe edition with the 2 bonus track (Wedding and Remove Your Mask) because they are amazing, can't understand why they didn't put those tracks on the regular album

Its just classic Wolfmother, which is pretty average music for me. Maybe a bit weaker cause compared to the earlier albums its a bit more in the back less and less in your face, supported by the appearance of songs like Pretty Peggy. So yeah, not much to say, dont hate it, dont love it, just middle of the road. Nice to put on once in a while.

I had a tough time forming an opinion with this album. The riffs are good, energetic, nothing exceptional. The vocals remind me of Jack White a bit. There are some surprises harmonically, especially on "Happy Face" which really wouldn't be that good of a song if it weren't for the weird stoner-desert rock chorus. I also like the explosive start of "Best of a Bad Situation" and the 2nd half of "Victorious" where Wolfmother spices things up with some fast paced riffing and rocking. The chorus of "Gypsy Caravan" reminds me of Jethro Tull a bit. Overall this is a nice rock album, you won't regret giving it a listen, you won't be blown away, but neither will you be disappointed. Victorious is premium Wolfmother in places, and pretty much abominable in others.

The overall impression is of vintage music given a modern snap and kept short and simple for maximum effect.

It’s all too nice, too safe, and ultimately, too predictable.
