In essence, this album sounds like Death Magic if Trent Reznor had gotten a hold of it. They’ve subverted the congenial elements associated with their last record to make some of the band’s darkest incarnations yet.

It’s a heavy record for heavy times, but another intriguing example of what the trio can achieve, even when they’re burdened with the weight of the world on their shoulders.

Sometimes, Vol. 4 :: Slaves of Fear feels almost too successful at what it sets out to do, but as bleak as it gets, there's something special about its empathy and honesty.

Health's dark musical aesthetic feels as fresh as ever. ... Now, that's not to say there aren't a couple misses like "Rat Wars", but all in all, the androgynous energy of Jake Duzsik on the mic is more than enough to shape another pulsating yet nihilistic soundscape that reminds us how Health ages well like fine wine.

It invents one of its own. Which at times makes for an unnerving and uneasy listen. Although stripped to a three-piece these days, the deafening crashes of percussion coupled with blistering pockets of pedal-induced noise aren't any less apparent.

There is no fight in these songs, not even the faintest stab at hope. There’s just empty moaning, and a lone, feeble guitar that chugs for all eternity in hell.

Wish some of the songs actually engaged you a bit more. Most of the songs seem to just hit you with a wall dissonant vocals and dark electronic noise which is cool for sure but doesn't make for the most memorable listen. Definitely get the appeal of it though Expand
