    The songs are brilliant: Ivey's songwriting is biting, sarcastic, and direct, and he sings them with a flat cynicism that adds depth. The arrangements here often go a little too far though, adding large bands, backup singers, and occasionally strings. Ivey is great in live settings when he plays on his own or with his wife, and these tunes would have been better set for a small band, or just Ivey and a rhythm section.… Expand
