    This is a very solid album, with some very notable tracks including, "Keep it Healthy," "Love is to Die," and "Disco//very," but there are more than a few tracks that don't really stay in my head as much as all of the songs on their previous album. If you're a fan of Warpaint, purchasing the album is worth it though. It's definitely not their best or most significant work to date as a complete LP.

    Warpaint's first record was a dark and brooding affair. Not only this but it also had a unique feel to it with a commendable consistency across the record. The band's eponymous follow up is another dark affair but unfortunately show's very little progression from its predecessor.     One of the most amazing rhythm sections I've ever heard. Jenny Lee's bass rips on this record and as always the vocal harmonies are enchanting. This feels like the most complete album Warpaint has made to date and I can't wait to hear how they've progressed on the new album.

    I found this album to be a significant let down from previous EP and Full length. The songs meander and move like mollasses without much progress and propulsive. the music sounds like it's on cruise control and sadly doesn't give the impression that they were very impassioned by the album.     Way less hazy than their previous effort, which nice. Some beautiful moments here, the opening track, Love is to Die, and my favorite, Disco//Very. But overall, im not really impressed, more impressed with what it's trying to be, than what it really is. Kinda feels like a bland or stale take of Smashing Pumpkins, Portishead or Massive Attack. So drained in feeling, or emotional. Meh overall.

    I started to have concerns with this new album when guitarist/vocalist Theresa Wayman stated that previous albums were "totally crammed" with "too much instrumentation" and "We leant towards things we thought were sexier". There were rave reactions on YouTube to `love is to die' with its key change chorus but it left me rather unimpressed. Most of the songs have stripped out guitarsI started to have concerns with this new album when guitarist/vocalist Theresa Wayman stated that previous albums were "totally crammed" with "too much instrumentation" and "We leant towards things we thought were sexier". Most of the songs have stripped out guitars leaving the vocals, bass, and drums to carry the songs. Guitars lazily jiggle in then out but on many tracks they have largely been replaced with synthesizer. It is certainly a new direction for Warpaint and the first time all four members have written music together.

    Personally, I like 'Feeling Alright' where this new focus works extremely well with its subdued dubstep bass line leading into the tracks 'CC' and 'Drive'. Unlike previous releases there is a lack of urgency and rawness and at times this new direction just simply does not work. Most of the album is one toned and drifts rather aimlessly going nowhere which in the end lacks anything that will remotely stir your senses. Listen in comparison to Braids ‘In Kind’ where drifting, electronic + guitar can mix to produce something magical.

    Nothing on this release comes close to matching the brilliance of 'Majesty', 'Beetles', 'Elephants' or 'Undertow’. The band may have advanced technically in recording and production techniques but in the end we have an album that's rather too easy listening and completely forgettable.    … Expand

    I don't know, I think this album is amazing. Has lots of great tunes and just a few **** songs. "Love Is To Die" and "Teese" sound lovely. I would even say that "Warpaint" is their best effort so far.

    Warpaint's self titled 2nd album was one of my most anticipated of 2014. I was a big fan of 2010's The Fool and their debut Exquisite Corpse EP. I can't help but feel this is a little bit of a sophomore slump though. Warpaint sticks with their tried and true formula of skeletal post-rock guitars, tight grooving rhythms and ethereal harmonies sounding like witches chanting. It almost does cast a spell on the listener. The production is great and I liked the touches of synthesizer thrown in that gives added texture to the songs. The band sounds better than ever, but after repeated listens I found myself missing the hooks and melodies from their previous records. There's no guitar hooks as memorable as Elephants or vocal melodies like Undertow that leave you humming hours later. They come close on several tracks in the first half of this album and that may be enough for hardcore fans.… Expand

    Their sound isn’t one that’s been carved out necessarily; it’s always been there since Exquisite Corpse, but only more recently has it been developed (perhaps because of the aid of top-name producers).
