There is no doubting the power Roddick and James are wielding on ‘Womb’. The talent of Purity Ring as songwriters, instrumentalists and visionaries is clear to see – it will be interesting to see where the band can take their sound in years to come.

Womb's confidence and eloquence proves that a more grown-up Purity Ring still has plenty of sparkle and wonder -- and makes a fine way to round out Roddick and James' first decade of making music together.

WOMB is uncomfortable yet poignant as an exploration of suffering and subsequent healing in a multifaceted way. Using fuzzy ambience, pitched-up vocals, and watery synths, this album takes listeners on a disorienting, Willy Wonka-like boat ride through a bloody journey of femininity.

It's more of a steady refinement than a great leap forward. The wait may have been long, but the results are mature and compassionate enough to justify it.

Womb contains a world that is by nature red in tooth and claw, and Purity Ring have found a way to marvel at every single aspect of the experience.
  6. Missteps are few. Instead of taking a battle-axe to what came before, ‘WOMB’ refines Purity Ring even further. The subtle experiments pay off – even if you may sometimes wish they’d surprise you more.

Locked inside Womb is an excellent EP, but stretched out to 10 tracks it can feel predictable. [Jun 2020, p.105]

From Edmonton, Megan James and Corin Roddick are a Dream and Synth Pop that presents "WOMB". This album strengthens the genre that the duo dominates as producers and, even if it seems to have a correct balance between intensity and sensibility, not all of their tracks achieve to get out of Pop cliche. There is a correct mix and dynamic between the beautiful voice of Megan and the music presented, but most of the rhythms seem to be recycled from very frequent Pop formulas. "WOMB" is nothing new, maybe sometimes attractive, but is invisible upon more creative projects.

The layered production on each track results in a silky electronica sound for Megan James's to float on top of. I don't think it's a stretch to call it mesmerizing at times.
Whenever I read Kieron Gillen's 'The Wicked and The Divine', a story about popstar gods (its not subtle in its messaging but it IS good), I'll likely picture music from this album whenever Amaterasu performs.
Definitely enjoyed this one but it is unsurprisingly more of the same from this duo.
