She may emphasize her ties to the past but she's intent on expanding the tradition, turning country music into a bolder, more inclusive place, and that desire is what makes Wrangled such a compelling album.

Song after song features sharp lyrics, sublime melodies, strong performances and suitable production, with Presley cool, calm and collected at the center of it all.

Presley's righteous fury and mordant wit burn even brighter on this follow-up. [May 2017, p.28]

I'm sort of baffled by why this is any better regarded than your run of the mill country album from 2017. There isn't anything terriblyI'm sort of baffled by why this is any better regarded than your run of the mill country album from 2017. There isn't anything terribly original, and if we're talking low points, "Country" was in the top 10 worst songs I heard all year. "Bless My Heart" had a little bit of cheekiness and sass that I appreciate in country, but most of the album was sort of devoid of personality. Gotta give this a 4 for being average with the abysmal "Country" weighing it down by 1. Remember not very long ago when we were seeing great female country acts like Pistol Annies on the first page of Metacritic? What's changed? Expand
