JasonSSep 9, 2005This is the best album that I have listened to by far. Its just brilliant it gets better ever time I listen to it, ColdPlay's best album that they have so wonderfully created.
-
-
alecv.Sep 9, 2005I've never listened to Coldplay before, but this Album is the best I have listened to in a long time. Listen to it on headphones really loud and it gets a whole new sound! I cannot understand it gets bad reviews. This is simply great music. Isn't it all a totally subjective question of taste and mood, anyway, How can anyone be in a position to trash it officially???
-
-
skSep 8, 2005As Paste magazine suggests, it takes commitment to listen to this album.....when I did, I WAS rewarded! Martin admits that his lyrics are no great shakes, but he feels the music and chords are exceptional...and I agree. As for his voice, I find that he uses that as an instrument. This is one of my favorite albums!

-
RobLSep 7, 2005There is nothing worse than boring music, and Coldplay is bordom distilled. Perhaps the most absurdly overblown band in history.
-
-
DarrylRSep 5, 2005This is simply the best album i have ever heard. A cocktail of beautifull songs mixed with a strange sense of darkness that i have not heard since Radiohead's Ok Computer. It sends shivers through your bones. Breath taking!

-
AleksC.Sep 4, 2005While this may be a very successful record, it doesn't quite mak sense with me. The entire album sounds like some old B-sides that got some touch ups. Way too similar to their previous work, it's hard to distinguish them as anything new. It is obvious their trying a little harder, but do songs like "Speed Of Sound", and "Fix You" make it sound like they've made much progress?
-
-
KennySep 3, 2005This is a huge disapointment. The lyrcis are so crappy and they're all cliches (Every step that you take/Could be yourbiggest mistake/It could bend or it could break/ But that's the risk that you take). Pure crap! And the transition into a more electronic style is pathetic (prob trying to be compared again with Radiohead). They should stick with they're old stuff.
-
-
EmilyM.Aug 29, 2005I agree with Bob S. The lead singer sounds like someone just kicked him in the nuts. His voice is like nails on a chalk board and Coldplay's lyrics are cheesey and some just don't make any sense! Hopefully, coldplay will die out.

FrancoDAug 28, 2005X&y is a cd very intersting, i recommend... ...the best Coldplay's cd... ...my song favorite is Fix You!! ...please Coldplay come to Argentina!!!

JamesFAug 27, 2005I usually try to provide a little more explanation than this when I reject a record, but this was just really really really boring. It doesn't really invite any further scrutiny. The second CD was better.
-
-
NicMAug 26, 2005Not nearly as good as the previous albums - makes you understand why non-fans feel Coldplay is contrived and tepid. Still a playable record, but very forgettable as well.
-
-
BernieG.Aug 25, 2005This is Coldplay's best album. They have finally reached U2-like status with their lyrical content and musical styles. Best song on the album, "Talk" is also, in my opinion, the best song of 2005.
-
-
KimiAug 23, 2005Wow! I think those who critic this album might be crazy! This is by far the best album ever! Even if you might not listen to it on radio stations quite often.. X&Y offers great songs from the greatest band.. COLDPLAY!!
-
-
BeckaFAug 21, 2005I am officially in love with this album... although in my eyes it doesn't beat Parachutes i think it's genius and i don't understand why people give feedback if they hate the album.. here's a plan if you don't like it don't listen to it and stop trying to ruin it for other people!

BlisterfishCafeAug 18, 2005Album of the year...end of review.

-
FloydCAug 17, 2005Very good chord progressions that rival the Beatles. The sound is not bland and the CD begs for me to play it again. Great lyrics and sound. Good love songs. What can I say!
-
-
BobSAug 16, 2005If coldplay's head gets any bigger people are going to have evacuate from the island. This cd is awful. The coldplay genre is lame , unexciting , and dying quickly. Once Chris martin hits puberty then maybe the band will be able to mature.

LiJiaXAug 12, 2005This album rocks! The songs there are just so soothing! Those people who says that it isn't good does not have any taste! Th song For You is so soothing that it makes you feel 'high' and makes you feel like you are flying! Very suitable to listen to during airplane flights! 10 Thumbs Up!
-
-
johnhAug 11, 2005OK, but in the end unadventurous. It's amazing how quickly one gets fed up with it. If only they had let themselves go a bit more - "Twisted Logic" should be the point of departure for their next album.

BradRJul 31, 2005A great album. Don't listen to the negativity, this is absolutely gorgeous especially Side X. White Shadows and Square One are probably the best songs Coldplay have written so far.
-
-
youssefmJul 30, 2005brilliant. Don't forget that 'A Rush of Blood...' took a while to sear itself on our brains. The same thing is happening with X&Y. Bring on No. 4 when you are ready, Chris.

-
martymcflyJul 29, 2005A fantastic album from start to finish. Sure they are sticking to their formula, but I loved their previous albums and I love this one too.
-
-
JonWJul 24, 2005Overall good album with many good songs that martin some makes sound different and each in their own way enjoyable. Although it did take some time i was pleased with the album
-
-
abernJul 24, 2005They are being touted to be the next U2 of the new generation....thats correct...just like the veteran counterparts without any hesitation they could be their three albums and call it X & Y and nobody will see the difference...the same formula...grand, lush and boring...if they are a good band they should come up with good ideas than recycle the same shit. dissappointing
-
-
MikeJul 23, 2005I love every song on this album
-
-
KyleJJul 22, 2005I had always enjoyed Coldplay's singles, but never really connected with an entire CD they produced. X&Y, though, is easily one of the best purchases I have ever made and a solid piece of work the entire way through. I'd say this is easily their best music yet, and hopefully is just a teaser for even better things to come.

AndrewLJul 19, 2005This is one of those records that takes more than one listen. The first time I listened to it through, I didn't really get it all. It didn't seem as good as ROBTTH. But after more listens, I find it to be a masterpiece. Like it or not, this is the album Coldplay will be remembered for.
-
-
PeterGJul 19, 2005It,s safe,no arguing ther, still very good. Chris Martin still got it. This one will be played for a long time to come.

-
-
tsuedeJul 18, 2005worst album of the year . so boring . chris martin's not a good song writer . all songs copy of U2 , mercury rev and radiohead .
-
-
MihaiVJul 18, 2005It grows on me every time I hear it. At first I didn't like it. But now I love it. That's becouse I gave it a chance. My favourite tracks keep on changing every day. Noy I like "Square one"/

-
-
JonyVJul 13, 2005easily on my top 5 ever! unsurprisingly, pop snobs will dismiss them as a stadium band... but who cares when coldplay can release records so well crafted like this one? HUGE.
-
-
attabJul 12, 2005this album is way too easy. the really adhered to a formula that would yeild immediately catchy songs and resultingly high sales. after having more than a month to digest this album, it ends up being rather flat and forgetable. i'd rather listen to all the artists and albums they ripped off.
-
-
IraDJul 11, 2005Absolutely fantastic. I love everything Coldplay has ever put out, and this is no exception. The whole album plays so well together and is incredible. I loved it.

SimonPJul 4, 2005An album that is the definition of a grower - those who can't see its beauty simply aren't listening. Every single song a craker (especially live), but track 4 - fix you - a fantastic 'shivers down your spine' song when it kicks in.
-
-

-
PaulHJul 3, 2005The third straight album of exactly the same thing from these play it safe brits. Still i can't give it too bad a review because I still think their a okay band, better then a lot out there and i'm happy that their a rock and roll band that's been able to find success now and days

RMJun 29, 2005this is an album that takes a few listens to really like. im not a huge coldplay fan, but i liked a rush of blood and thought id check it out. some of the lyrics are kind of lame like "i want to love you but i dont know if i can," but the melodies were beautiful and i coudnt get them out of my head. this is a great listen!
-
-
HarryHJun 28, 2005Great in places, but nowhere near as consistent as the last album. Coldplay seem to have forgotten that you can't add layers of synth simply for the sake of it, and this is where the album's main flaw stems from - they've tried to cram too much into too small a space. The best songs, such as "The Hardest Part" and "'Til Kingdom Come", are often the simplest.
-
-
JoshuaEJun 27, 2005This is an excellent cd! It is near flawless and very good quality music, possibly my favorite album of all time. Speed of Sound, Fix You, Square One and White Shadows are some of the highlights. Coldplay is now officially my favorite band.
-
-
MorganCJun 26, 2005This album could be called "Coldplay Takes No Chances" or "Empty, Slice-of-Life Platitudes" and the the single that's a total rehash of "Clocks" is unforgiveable.
-
-
DanB.Jun 26, 2005I'm not a huge coldplay fan, but I did like their previous albums enough that I still listen to them every once in a while. Not all the tracks, but, most of them. And I've listened to the new one a few times and can't help but think that I won't be pulling it out, randomly, months from now. It's not bad though. A few songs off it I'll pull off for mixes, maybe.
-

DerrickMJun 23, 2005This is a very good album, not a complete departure, but an evolution. While it will be compared to U2 and others, I see a possible lineage, perhaps unintended, to John Lennon. The melodies, harmonies, suggest an affinity.
-
-
KRJun 23, 2005Neat Stuff ! Talk, Square one , A Message and Fix You are the highlights of this album. White Shadows sounds edgy in more ways than one . Go Listen..

-
lewekjJun 22, 2005zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz wheres the alarm clock? garners a 7 off the sheer power of 4 truly u2 meets oasis meets radiohead meets coldplay fantastic songs. a rush of blood to the head will likely serve as "definitely maybe" their "morning glory. uneven.
-
-
DenisCJun 22, 2005This is by far the best album to date of Coldplay with some of their songs taking a new direction , the first sone on the album especially sounding very like U2 and that cant be a bad thing can it . The more you listen to this album the more addicted you will become this CD is one habbit i definatly dont want to beat .

KatyKJun 20, 2005What an ugly piece of work. Yikes!
-
-
JimHJun 20, 2005"What If" and "Talk" are two tracks on this CD that actually stand up and say for the band "See? We CAN be good but choose to be sleepy and boring instead! Take that!" If this CD only had those two songs on it, I'd give it a 10. Too bad.
-
-
OliverPJun 20, 2005Square One, Speed of Sound and Talk are great songs, but too many of the rest are mediocre, run-of-the-mill. A decent album, but nowhere near as good as Rush of Blood

MarianoDJun 17, 2005Coldplay has done again a remarkable job. For those who do not like this album, I must tell you that this is not easy listening music. You have to hear the songs many times to start finding the appropiate sour to the songs. Follow my advice, hear many times, find the sour and you will see this album is going to be amazing to your ears. Enjoy!

-
KeramCJun 16, 2005This album is a pleasing but easily forgetable listen. If you're looking for mindless, instant gratification, this is your album. If you're looking for insightful, well-crafted lyrics, avoid this album like the plauge.

danimJun 16, 2005martin says the band gave it thier best; i think they are experimenting with something new. after rush of blood, i guess i was hoping for an extension of that album. Put aside your preconceptions and listen, there are some real jewels on this album.
-
-
JackWJun 16, 2005This album, though not at all experimental or demanding of its listener, is nevertheless sublime, passionate and without doubt the best thing Coldplay have ever done. I find it incredible that there are so many negative reviews for this album. Just listen to it a few times rather than once or twice before reaching an opinion!!
-
-
IanCJun 16, 2005I kept fast-forwarding through track after track; the songs don't take off, and each seems more bland than the next. Two listens is all the time I can waste with this.

Awards & Rankings
-
Blender[Coldplay] have made their masterpiece. [Jun 2005, p.112]
-
Confident, bold, ambitious, bunged with singles and impossible to contain, ‘X&Y’ doesn’t reinvent the wheel but it does reinforce Coldplay as the band of their time.
-
They have chosen to opt for the standard formula: it's elegiac, mid-tempo, stadium-friendly ballads all the way.
