Pure perfection. Been a fan since West Kirby and then i forgot about him for some twisted reason... I discovered Yawny Yawn first and then realised it's a piano 'rework' of the original 'Yawn'. I thought he would never top himself after West Kirby but he did... twice. I've been addicted for weeks now to both albums. The piano version is hauntingly beautiful. It's even a bit much sometimes, but I can't simply help myself listening to it. Just wow... what a genius. A national treasure of England. He deserves so much more recognition. Expand

The absence of instrumentation and arrangements beyond Ryder-Jones's lyrics and piano makes Yawny Yawn noticeably different from the original versions of the album's tracks. This is distinctive in offering a new listening experience focused on a direct and consistent style.

The piano's push into poignancy is occasionally too much, but Yawny Yawn largely feels like new information, a clear-sighted re-vision of a tremendous set of songs. [Sep 2019, p.86]

The allusive, poetic intimacy of songs and singer are enriched, while an atmospheric haze keeps the concept loose. [Sep 2019, p.34]
