Your Hero Is Not Dead shows Westerman not only invigorated, but willing to stretch his range. Working again alongside longtime friend and producer, Bullion, Westerman, here, surpasses his early work with curious abandon and confessional songwriting.

Westerman creates music to think and daydream and plot adventures to. Arriving among a musical landscape of clean, but often vacuous bedroom pop, he has created something of lasting substance and clarity.

With the help of Nathan Jenkins, aka producer Bullion, Westerman achieves a synthesis of these previous experiments, fusing together whimsical curiosity and technical proficiency. Over a backdrop made of the sounds of the past, his lucid yet uncomplicated lyrics interrogate the uncertainty of the present.

'Your Hero Is Not Dead' is essential listening for anyone at odds with themselves or the current state of society, which really should be just about everyone at this point.
  6. Impressive debut. Somehow, he manages to tame the album’s kinks into a cohesive if not beguiling whole that’s eminently challenging and comforting to listen to.

Where Westerman’s debut suffers is in its consistency: there’s such a distinctive sonic palette that, within a batch of tracks whose tempo never steps past ‘mid’, it’s hard for individual offerings to always stand out. But really he’s done the hard work; now Westerman’s defined his niche, all he has to do is refine it a little.

Your Hero Is Not Dead is an impressively contemplative debut album, filled with quiet music that packs a surprising emotional punch.

Westerman may not have found his footing with his debut record, but there are enough parts to the whole that should keep listeners looking forward to what he does in the future.

Will Westerman, of England, has a personal project born from his intimacy that is felt in his musical path. Diagnosticated with ADHD, the desitions of Bullion (the producer), and this young and emerging musician taken over the production are mature, vast, emotional, and intelligent. It's not that there's a lack of creativity, but the musical maturity and intelligence in this album captivate the most serene and assertive emotions of listeners. Almost like medicine, the music that Will exposes in this project seems to canalize the impulsivity and hyperactivity that the artist endures, and presents a totally safe and calm world under his own control and vision. An interesting paradox if his disorder and its repercussions are taken into account. I will be excited to follow this artist and his New Wave Pop.
